Rubbish Friends

Litter Picking in South Childwall

Rubbish Friends is the volunteer litter-picking group supported by the South Childwall Residents Association (SCRA).

Since 2020, local residents have been meeting regularly to keep our streets, paths, and green spaces tidy.

We meet on the second Sunday of each month at 2 pm.

If you would like to help, just come along! You’ll be made very welcome.

Join a Litter Pick

What We Do

Rubbish Friends began in July 2020 and has grown into a small, friendly group of around twenty regular volunteers.

Together we:

  • Pick litter from roads, pavements, and green areas
  • Help keep the neighbourhood looking cared for
  • Stop rubbish reaching drains and wildlife spaces
  • Enjoy meeting neighbours and having a chat while we work

New volunteers are always welcome!

Our Two Groups

Childwall Triangle

This is where Rubbish Friends first started. Volunteers meet at the Triangle and cover the surrounding streets.

Childwall Fiveways

The Fiveways group began in May 2022 and works around the Fiveways junction and the service road towards Rudston Road.

Both groups meet at the same time each month, and volunteers sometimes move between the two depending on what’s needed.

Support from the Community

We’re grateful for the encouragement and help we receive.

In May 2024, Rubbish Friends received £500 from the Local Neighbourhood Fund, which helped us run Childwall Cleanup Week and buy extra equipment.

Thank you to local councillors Lord Mike Storey and Pat Moloney for their support.

We also greatly appreciate the generosity of Eden Florist, which offers a discount to our volunteers, and of All Saints Church for assistance with skip access when required.

Finally, we extend our thanks to Calisa, who makes us feel so welcome at Christmastime with a supply of hot drinks and mince pies.

Photos from our Litter Picks

Over the years, we’ve collected many photos of volunteers, usual finds, before-and-after scenes, and community moments. They show the steady difference people can make by turning up regularly.
